The Ministry of Tourism took the initiative to introduce training programs in tourism and travel management. In 1982, it established the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITM), a company registered as a center of excellence for education and training in the field. It began operating in New Delhi, and the main campus of the Institute has been transferred to Galion in its own extensive campus (Govindapuri, Gwalior-4774011) thereafter, the universities began to introduce courses in travel management at different levels.
