Secretary of State for Tourism, Joan Mesquite, and the rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Got or Santa Maria, today signed an agreement whereby both parties agree to cooperate to conduct outreach activities, training and research in tourism.

The signing of the agreement between the Tourism Institute of Spain (Trepan) and the University of Oviedo provide channels for exchanging information and conducting studies and research on certain problems of the tourism sector. The duration of the agreement is four years, renewable for another period of equal duration.

This is the fourth agreement is signed, from the Ministry of Tourism, with a Spanish university with these objectives. The first was signed with the University of Allocate in October 2009, the second with the University Antonio de Nutria and the third with the Polytechnic University of Cartage, both in February 2010.

Among the objectives of this collaboration agreement are: To promote and conduct studies and tasks of training and research in tourism-related areas of interest to the parties firmantes.Colaborar in organizing conferences, seminars and courses related to the activity Desk.

Promote cooperation agreements between Trepan and Tourist Information System of Asturias (SITA) belonging to the University of Oviedo.Gijón, urban tourist destination

the first research project will be launched following the signing today, will study the specific case of Dijon. This is an initiative that has arisen from the interest shown by the City Council to review the process of transition from Dijon, an industrial city to urban tourist destination.

This work, supported from the city of Dijon, will provide basic data essential for effective tourism planning in the city.

Moreover, Trepan collaborates with the University of Oviedo, through the Institute for Tourism Studies (IET) in the delivery of an ECTS credit in the Master in Tourism Management and Planning that the university offers in the Campus of Dijon. The module with which the IET is committed is dedicated to the techniques and analysis of statistics on tourism in Spain.

Collaboration with the University Network of Graduate Studies in Tourism

the Ministry of Tourism has opted for collaboration with Spanish universities, as has been integrated into the University Network of Graduate in Tourism (RED Incur) along with 14 universities with the aim of promoting scientific and technological research the tourism industry, through the Internet.

The information system on scientific research tourism, called SICTUR was born precisely at the beginning of this collaboration, with the promise of sharing in Internet-thematic research, participants, and contact information, each of the research department Universities.

Knowledge and innovation are fundamental drivers in the strategy of the Ministry of Tourism. In this context, there has been progress in the implementation of the Integrated Network of Knowledge and Tourism Intelligence (Antilitter), together with the Council of Chambers (CSC), a tool that will make available to all stakeholders knowledge generated in tourism, both public and private.
